Abstract

This article presents an analysis of the author and reader’s roles in the work of André Gide, The Counterfeiters (Les faux-monnayeurs). Through the discussion of some questions concerning the autobiographical studies, the reflections of Aesthetic of Reception critical school and René Girard’s mimetic theory, we engage in a reflection about the relationship between an active reader and the writer. In addition, we propose to analyze how the autobiographical perception of the book allows a reconfiguration of the relationship between the reader and the author, in order to show how this approach may result in a mimetic relationship.
