Este ensaio analisa o conto de Lygia Fagundes Telles intitulado “Venha ver o pôr-do-sol”, enfatizando a presença de elementos constituintes de uma arquetipologia da morte, à qual se vincula uma série de símbolos responsáveis por consolidar a atmosfera lúgubre da trama e conduzir o leitor sempre em tensão por seus meandros. Busca-se evidenciar de que maneira a autora utiliza-os para construir uma linha de ascensão e queda que percorre toda a narrativa, sinalizando que o movimento ascensional em nada divino culmina na engolição pelo abismo voraz.
