Abstract

The group "Fat Soldiers" is one of the names that has gained prominence in the scenario of the Angolan rap. Formed by Soldier V, Timomy and M.P, the group began its journey in 2010 with the launch of the first mixtape "Mentes da Rua". "Fat Soldiers" has denounced the living conditions of the poor and oppressed of Angola through subversive and acidic lyrics. The last single released by the group is called "I refuse myself", from the album "Survivors vol. 1, "which addresses a discourse against poverty and inequality, denouncing the concentration of wealth in one of the countries with the highest economic growth of the African continent. The high critical content of the lyrics of the group demonstrates an attitude of engagement, as can be seen in the songs "Truths" and "Cradle of Tin", which portray the suburban realities, social and spatial degradation and systematic corruption that plagues the country. In this interview, the group talks about the Angolan past, the struggles for independence, the current situation in Angola and issues related to music, aesthetics and utopia.
