Abstract

As we understand that the launch of Ara (Portugal, 2013; Brazil, 2016) amid the current environment of political and civil rights setbacks – which implies further repression to individual rights and, consequently, to women – sets a new perspective on Ana Luísa Amaral’s work, we believe that it is necessary to carry out a careful reading of that book, connecting it to some of the works it dialogizes with, namely Novas Cartas Portuguesas – in its literary and political dimensions – and Adrienne Rich’s feminist theories on compulsory heterosexuality and lesbian existence, which comprehends the idea of a lesbian continuum among women.
