Abstract

A remarkable feature in Eugénio de Andrade’s poetry, author of As palavras interditas, released in 1951, is its both imagetical and rhythmical relevance given to the word. According to Gastão Cruz , who included the poet among those Quinze poetas portugueses do século XX (Fifteen Portuguese Poets of 20th Century), Eugénio has the “abillity to make the word return to the core of the poem, as a structural part of it", just as Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen does, for instance. "As palavras " by Eugénio – and also other poems by him - will be analysed in alignment with Contemporary Portuguese Poetry, taking into account the dialogistic theory of literature.
