Abstract

To try to understand how Brazil could have reached a situation that may be characterized as completely out of control in the covid-19 pandemic, with thousands of deaths increasing every day, I propose to distinguish at least three major issues that preceded the emergence of the pandemic, but were worsened in the context of the health crisis caused by the coronavirus. They are: epistemological issues linked to scientific denialism; ethical-political issues linked to human rights; and biopolitical strategies linked to neoliberal reason.
