Abstract

This paper presents the differences in personal income related with gender and ethnic group, in Brazil, identifying a sharp hierarchy: white men (except afro Americans), white women, afro Americans (and descendents) and afro Americans women. The available evidences shows that these inequalities are not expressive within each social level or socioccupational group. In other words, the afro Americans and the women who reach the finest strata are quite close of the regular condition of the same groups. In this sense, the distortions are located mostly in inequality in the access condition to better-remunerated occupations.
