Abstract

This article analyzes the intergenerational mobility according quali- fied equal opportunities presented by Anderson et al. (2009). We conduct two empirical tests with parents and children education data in Canada and Brazil. We estimate the relationship between the education of the children and parents and then we analyze the relationship between the error of the regression and the socioeconomic status of the parents. The method of quantile regressions for discrete data of Machado & Santos Silva (2005) was used as a soluction to the problem in the identification of nonlinear equations pointed out by Figueiredo et al. (2014). In both countries the intergenerational mobility has no consistent characteristics with equal qualified opportunities, especially in Brazil
