Author Guidelines

  • The formatting of the article must obey the following guidelines: spacing of 1.5 between lines, “Times New Roman” font, 12 point, and margins of at least 2.5 centimeters.
  • Pages must be numbered.
  • When bibliographic references include URLs, the date of access to the webpage must be informed.
  • Highlights must be indicated in italics, except in the case of URLs, which can be underlined.
  • Articles and reviews should preferably be written in English, but articles and reviews in Portuguese are also accepted.
  • Articles cannot exceed 30 pages, and the limit for book reviews and comments is six pages.
  • Additional documents considered relevant may be attached.
  • Bibliographic references must be presented in alphabetical order at the end of the article and be restricted to the works effectively cited in the paper.
  • Citations must follow the Chicago citation style (http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide.html).

About the decision-making process

The journal adopts a desk-rejection policy, in which the Editorial Committee, after a preliminary evaluation of the article, can decide to reject the work without sending it to reviewers. The paper will be rejected if:

  • It does not provide an original contribution.
  • It does not rely on a rigorous methodology.
  • It is poorly written.
  • It does not belong to the scope of the journal.
  • It does not respect the guidelines defined at “Author’s Responsibilities”, “Conditions for submission,” and “Author Guidelines”.

If the article passes this first check, the Editor will send it to reviewers, following the double-blind review procedure, in which authors and reviewers are not identified during the review process.

If the decision of the first evaluation round requires the revision and resubmission of a new version, it must be delivered within three months. If not submitted a new version within this period,  the article will be excluded from the evaluation process.

The resubmission of a new version must have messages addressed to each of the reviewers, in which the authors must specify the changes made in order to meet the recommendations and criticisms received, indicating which pages have been changed. If the authors do not meet the reviewers’ demands, they must provide justifications. The file with the new version must be in PDF, without identification of the authors in the article or in the file properties. The new version should highlight the changes in bold or another color.

Rejected articles cannot be resubmitted.

Publishing

Authors of accepted papers must check the edited versions within the deadline stipulated by the editor. If the authors do not respond to the request, the article will be published in the format suggested by the journal.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The article cannot be in the evaluation process of another journal.
  • All submissions - initial submissions and subsequent versions of the evaluation rounds - must be made only in PDF format and without identifying the authors. Authors should check the text, title and properties of the documents to make sure they are not identified.
  • The name(s) of the author(s) must also be informed in the journal's electronic system when submitting the paper.
  • Authors must respect the limit on the number of pages and the formatting rules, highlighted in the section “Author Guidelines”.
  • Failure to meet any of these conditions will imply the automatic rejection of the article.
  • In addition to the main file – the article without identification – the author(s) must attach a PDF file with the cover page of the article, which must include the following information: title of the article (in Portuguese and English), name(s) of the author(s) and respective affiliation(s) and position(s), abstract (in Portuguese and English), keywords(In Portuguese and English) and three JEL classification codes.
  • Authors who have articles either under evaluation or in the process of being published in Estudos Econômicos cannot make a second submission, even if in co-authorship. If this happens, the second submission will be excluded.
