Resumo

Resolutely unwilling to fit the Cratylus to the Procustean bed of the reason, this quite linguisticcommentary of the etymological dialogue of Plato intends to give prominence to the elaboration of apeculiar underlying language that is very likely to have its source in the functioning of an earlier poeticone, which remains fundamentally oral – or more precisely sounding – and pragmatic. So that thisfamous dialogue, far from being ridiculous, might help us to understand better some “phonicosyllabic”cogs of most poetic uses – whether in verses or in “prose” – of the “archaic” language.
