Abstract

Portfolios have often been promoted as a tool for reflective thinking, yet few studies have examined the use of portfolios in teacher education programs evaluation. This report discuss the experience of using portfolio as assessment in two groups of teacher education students at a Higher Education College in São Paulo, during the 1st semester of 2015, in a discipline related to the literacy of young children. The use of portfolio as a way of evaluation for Higher Education teacher students was motivated by the need to develop reflexive assessment tools that allow student a reflexive self-assessment of their practical skills, more important for literacy teachers. The results demonstrated that it is possible and desirable to develop an reflexive assessment tool for Higher Education students, especially for the teacher education students, who needs to develop reflective process for their professional practice and allow students to become aware of their learning process and a concrete way to value their own work.
