Abstract

This article focuses on theoretical and legal aspects that underpin the approach of African and afro-Brazilian literatures in Brazilian education. Such intention is articulated to the Law 10.639/2003, whose purpose is the teaching of African and afro-Brazilian history and culture at all educational levels in Brazil. This law should guide the educational proposals from basic to higher education, being contemplated in the formulation of educational projects of the schools and in their classes. Thus, we discuss a pedagogical approach linked to the teaching of literature, in a broad sense, and, in detail, the teaching of African and afro-Brazilian literatures. The objective of this study is to contribute for the consolidation of education for ethnic-racial relationships, underscoring the importance of legal measures for their realization.
