Abstract

This article compares the academic abstract genre in two languages: Russian and Brazilian Portuguese. Initially, it presents some ideas about stylistics and briefly reports the arrival of this model of analysis in Brazil and Russia. After showing the development of Mikhail Bakhtin’s ideas on style and genre in tune with the school of Russian Functional Stylistics, he promoted the comparative analysis of the ‘scientific article abstract’ genre in the respective ethnolinguistic communities in order to show similarities and differences between their statements. Genre is addressed, in research, as a fixed form of scientific communication that refracts and reflects the immediate state of scientific reality in both countries.
