In Notes from the Underground, written by Dostoiévski in 1864, the insecurity and contradictions of a man emerges. Kafka, in The Burrow (1923), chooses the leading protagonist speech to be directed and elaborated under the predictable influence of the other. This paper aims at following the two narratives based on the Bakhtinian concepts present in Problems of Dostoevsky’s Poetics (PDP), namely: man to man, confessional tone, inner dialogue, dialogued self-conscience, veiled and open controversy, evasive speech, consciousness and otherness. This paper aims at analyzing, from the theoretical and methodological organization delineated in PDP, some of the degree and ways of including the other’s speech in both novels, with a view to follow the narrative and confessions of two characters who live in the underground, deprived of recognition and interaction, in a space of absence and silence.
