Língua, poder e identidade em Ngugi wa thiongo e Kanavillil Rajagopalan

Nos últimos anos, os teóricos denominados póscoloniais, como Edward Said (1995), Homi Bhabha (2001) e Stuart Hall (2003), para citar os mais conhecidos, têm se preocupado em problematizar os binarismos que geralmente vem à tona, quando o tema de discussões são as relações entre colonizadores e colonizados. A Língua é um objeto apropriadoa essa tentativa de superar estes binarismos, pois tem sido vista como um dos instrumentos de dominação colonial. Linguistas e antropólogos consideram a língua um instrumento que revela a identidade de um povo e promove a integração cultural, no presente e no passado. Neste trabalho, nos pautamos pelos argumentos de dois intelectuais póscoloniais que tratam dessa temática, o queniano Ngugi Wa
Thiongo e o indiano Kanavillil Rajagopalan, tentando ler seus argumentos como projetos identitários. O primeiro um projeto de identidade étnico e nacional; o segundo, um projeto pós-nacional e cosmopolita. Pensamos que seus textos e posicionamentos são fundamentais para entendermos as relações entre língua, poder e cultura na segunda metade do século XX. O cenário é o contexto das relações entre as potências europeias, os povos colonizados e aqueles em processo de descolonização.
