Abstract

This paper analyzes the alternation of subjunctive and indicative forms in spoken language in Fortaleza and investigates the acting of groups of factors semantic load of the verb of the matrix sentence (Pereira, 1974; ROCHA, 1997) and educational level of the speaker. Compares these results with the Cariri Cearense data (CARVALHO, 2007), whose objective is to describe the use of alternation in the two speech communities of Ceará. The comparison was possible because the two samples adopt the methodological procedures of variationist sociolinguistics for the data collection and coding and uses the Goldvarb X program for statistical analysis.
