Ethnography of archives – between past and present

The essay is concerned with the methodology of studying documental archives produced in Modernity as a way to understand the relationship that was established between state and society. From researches developed by Miroel Silveira Archive in the School of Arts and Communications of University of São Paulo, composed by trials of prior censorship to the theatre in São Paulo from 1930 to 1970, it attempts to explicit the ethnographic method as a way to interpret the information and the relationship between the parties involved. The ethnography also provides a bridge between the past and the present, a time marked by the proliferation of public and private archives.Downloads
