On supervision and control: an exercise regarding media ratings

Abstract

This article describes the current research taking place, originating from studies de- veloped by the endowment of Productivity in Researched, granted by CNPq, and by the Projeto Temático, with support from FAPESP, from which I am one of the main researchers. Since its inception being focused on mechanisms of censorship, nowadays we observe the supervision of cultural products, such as the one exercised by the Ministry of Justice’s Rating Classifcation or in cases that come from private eforts, implying an intervention on the free fow of information. We bring here some of our fndings, fruit of a long research, with which we can demonstrate the displacements and rearrangements of words and discourse that sustain processes of control
