Abstract

The research methodologies that analyze social relations at the local level may be the same as those that think the social relations at the global level. This epistemological principle is the basis for understanding (and for the proposal to overcome) the gaps generated by the knowledge production of International Relations, discipline which successfully claims the monopoly of analysis on “the international” in the academic field. It is from this idea that the present article intends to present elements that contribute to the construction and consolidation of a “sociology of international relations”. This text is a fragment of the recently completed doctoral thesis on the field of Brazilian diplomats. Here we present the Bourdieusian definition of State as a metafield and the sketch of the definition of the field of international relations. From this, we suggest an initial exercise to think what can be a sociology of international relations, thus proposing the opening for future research
