Like a stranger among men: existence and temporality in Albert Camus

Abstract

This text aims to seek, in Camus' works, a critique of the contemporary experience of time: first, to portray and to analyze the daily temporality that is present in his texts; then, to glimpse, in the author's essays and literature, possible alternatives to the rigidity of everyday time — what, for the purposes of the text, we will call suspension of time —; finally, elaborate an appreciation of the camusian hypotheses, discussing their values, as well as their limits. In this last part, in particular, texts by other authors will be used — in order to update and add new elements to the camusian problem. Among the authors are: Debord (pseudo-necessity); Baudrillard (consumption); Woodcock (clock); Campagna (work and adventure). All of this will be done briefly, indicating possible horizons — of criticism, but also of refuge.
