Abstract

The article aims to reinterpret the history of midwives women in the town of Goyaz during the 19th century. By means of our sources we document the values, experiences and conflicts that characterized their intersection in local history. In order to reevaluate the importance of midwives in our local history it is imperative to criticize the standards of conservative morality that they had to confront, which necessarily involves a significant change in the manner of making history as a contribution to gender studies, which is the main object of this article.
