Abstract

Vila Augusta, located on the periphery of Porto Alegre’s Metropolitan Region/ RS, is frequently affected by floods. To explain the floods phenomenon and create reflections about the effectiveness of the preventive measures adopted in the Vila Augusta, activities were developed between field and office: bibliographic research, cartographic production, inspections and interviews on area of studies that, especially based on Ross (1992) and FUJIMOTO (2001), aim the analysis of the morphodynamics transformations, from human interventions on the similar forms of the relief in the watershed where the Vila is inserted. The socio-environmental interventions in the Vila and its watershed change natural dynamics and promote new rhythms to the environment, particularly regarding the erosion and deposition processes, while intensifying them. The attempts to solve the flooding are focused in infrastructure interventions along the fluvial channels that drain the Vila. However, the floods are phenomenon resulting from morphodynamics transformations on the watershed.
