Abstract

This text approaches the action of the existing processes on the Brazilian coast considered as conditioning agents. It starts with the study of the geologic legacy, the variation of sea level and the modelling of coastal plains by the action of longshore currents. Further, the Brazilian coast partition is studied, describing the different coastal segments in a summarized way. Finally, the coastal erosion issue is discussed. This process presents natural and antrophogenic causes where both are considered, by evaluating some cases along the Brazilian coast. As conclusion, it is made a brief description about compatibility between geologic and historical evolutions of the coastal environments created throughout the coast occupation.
