Abstract

This paper reports the scientific results of CAPES/COFECUB cooperation project 35/8, entitled “Structural analysis of the pedological cover and its application in tropical environments”. This project was developed as a graduate programme by the Department of Geography USP (São Paulo, Brazil),  École Nationale Supérieure Agronomique” (Rennes, France), Geomorphological Center CNRS (Caen, France) and ORSTOM Center (Cayenne, French Guyane) from 1980 to 1995. Several soil surveys and  cartography of the pedological covertook place in São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina and Minas Gerais states and 7 M.Sc. and 18 Ph.D theses were concluded. These results represent an expressive contribution to the knowledge of pedogenetical and present-day soil processes, as well as to morphogenesis and landform evolution relationships  with soil  evolution. Results are presented under two labels: 1- pedological systems: soil genesis and dynamics; 2- hydrological processes and soil erosion.
