Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of climate dynamics and weather types in hospitalizations for pneumonia in the city of Ribeirão Preto / SP/Brazil. Were collected weather data (minimum temperature, maximum, rainfall and relative humidity) of the IAC from 1978 to 2008. Were also used data regarding daily hospitalizations for pneumonia in Ribeirão Preto of the CPDH / USP of the period 2002-2007. These data were processed with descriptive statistical techniques, regression models and rhythmic analysis. The results showed that conditions of daily minimum temperature with values less than 15°C with average temperature values below 21.5°C and thermal amplitude greater than 14.8°C were associated with increased risk of hospitalization for pneumonia statistical significance. In addition, episodes four to five days of below average minimum temperature were associated with increased hospital admissions for pneumonia in the city. Therefore, it is concluded that together health data, data from weather elements and atmospheric dynamics can be produced and analyzed for the construction of indicators that provide bases for public policy aimed at producing a healthier city.
