Abstract

This paper proposes an examination of a gray area characterized by counterfeits of commercial practices namely pirated works that reached the Brazilian public through the transatlantic trade of printed whose presence can be found in the catalogs of libraries and reading rooms deployed in the Brazilian Empire . On this occasion, it will be explored the role of Desiré-Dujardin, owner of Librairie Belge-Française and a reading room installed in the city of Rio de Janeiro in the period 1843-1851, its business and editorial strategies
