Abstract

This article addresses the relationship between traditional music and history, from two different angles. The first part deals with the relationship between the fields of History, Musicology and Ethnomusicology. In the second part, I present briefly some empirical data pertaining to the contemporary practice of the Afro-Brazilian dance called caxambu or jongo. The description shows that the performance itself embodies a conception of the history.
