Abstract

In this article Paolo Prodi proposes a synthesis of his works, on the last fifty years, concerning the role of Christianity, and more precisely of Post-Tridentin catholicism, in the construction of the Occidental world, and specifically in the construction of the Modern State and Justice. The discussion focuses on the tension between written and moral rules. The argument is developed in parallel with a biographical and a historiographical appraisal.
