Abstract

This article analyses how Livy offers an interpretation about the decemvirs'tyranny in Rome in the mid fifth century B.C., taking as a backdrop the episodes that cover two characters, Lucius Siccius and Verginia. Based on the perspective of Roman freedom, confronted to the unlimited power of the magistrates, the historian postulates how the male and female bodies can suffer the action of such a power.
