Abstract

This study aims to clarify the continuous historical presence of Melchisedec, the singular biblical figure which lend itself to a multiple interpretations within the Jewish and Christian religious thought. Since the first century of our era, the image of Melchisedec would turned in into a major symbol of the theological discussions between the two religions, as well as the others marginal sectes which were originated from both of them. Later on, throughout the Middle Ages, a remarkable develpment of the concpt of rex-sacerdos would took place with a significant role in the political thought and the controversies between regnum and sacerdoitum.
