Abstract

This paper will carry out a comparison between the data and discussions on the practices and attitudes surrounding child death at Rio de Janeiro and Englandin the nineteenth century. Considering the radical diversity that a first readingsuggests between them and the existence of studies for both, it will seek a better capture of the specificity in each one and review some general hypotheses about the evolution of sensitivity on childhood in the West.
