Abstract

This article discusses why Flávio de Carvalho, Di Cavalcanti, Antônio Gomide and Carlos Prado created, in November 1932, in the city of São Paulo, the Clube de Artistas Modernos (CAM), a cultural association to propagate modern art, and tried to end its dependency on the Maecenas tradition dependency. CAM was active between the final period of cultural Maecenas groups that was organized by people from elite and the beginning of establishment, the arts market consolidation and the global industry impulse. These changes were fundamentals to determinate a new employ possibilities to the artists.
