Abstract

This article aims to investigate a hybrid place in the city of São Paulo, where old and new coexist and overlap. Here, (in)visible lives behind liminal spaces reveal different forms of occupation and relations within the overall city. Although these spaces seem to evolve as a natural effect of time, they are, in fact, the direct result of capital and market decisions. These processes value the new and suppress the local history as they incrementally transform the urban environment. In this study, we present the case of a particular street in Vila Madalena, a neighborhood in a state of continuous transformatio
