About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Revista Ingesta is a semiannual electronic journal, organized by postgraduate students in History of the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil, members of the Laboratory of Historical Studies on Drugs and Food (LEHDA) , founded in 2016 in the same institution.

Our goal is to publish articles, reviews and thematic dossiers produced by graduate students, which can contribute to the development of historical studies on food and drugs. Texts related to the field of History will be privileged, but those of related disciplines, such as Anthropology or Sociology, will also be considered for evaluation by the Editorial Board and the Scientific Council.

The works will be received continuously throughout the year. To be selected and published, they must conform to the specifications detailed in the "Submissions" section. If so, they will be analyzed by the Editorial Board and then forwarded to the blind evaluation process (more information on the topic "Peer Review"). We do not pay authors, nor do we charge any fees: the publication exclusively depends on the evaluation and approval from the editorial and scientific boards.

Attention: Due to the delays resulting from the current pandemic context, we published a single issue of the journal in 2020. Also because of this context, we have temporarily interrupted the submission of articles and book reviews for later editions. Here, we will announce the return of activities and the next call for papers.

Peer Review Process

To ensure the integrity of blind peer review, we will take every possible precaution not to disclose the identity of authors and reviewers to each other during the evaluation process. This requires that the following precautions be taken:

a) Authors should exclude their names from the text, replacing with "Author" the necessary self-references.

b) In Microsoft Office documents, the author's identity must be removed from the document's properties (in the File> Properties menu), starting with File, in the main menu, and clicking on the sequence: Save as ...> Tools (or Options , for Mac)> Security Options ...> Remove personal information from the file when saving> OK> Save.

After the submission, the texts are sent to two members of the Scientific Council (or one, in the case of reviews). If there is a conflict between them, they go to a third member of the Scientific Council. Hence, the texts are approved or disapproved, with or without request for reformulations (if this request occurs, a deadline is given, which varies according to the schedule of each edition, for the author to send a new revised version).

It is up to the Editorial Board to decide when the received texts will be published.

Free Access Policy

This journal offers immediate free access to its content, following the principle that providing free scientific knowledge to the public provides greater global democratization of knowledge.

Journal History

The field of historical studies on drugs and food has been gaining academic space in Brazil and in other countries, but we know that this is a recent and still in its early stages. In the midst of this developing scenario, we created Revista Ingesta, an electronic journal produced by postgraduate students, members of the Laboratory of Historical Studies on Drugs and Food (LEHDA) of the History Department of the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil. The aim of the journal is to disseminate works of this expanding research area and to contribute to its consolidation. We publish articles and book reviews in the area of History and related disciplines (Sociology, Anthropology etc.) that refer to both the drug and food topics, as well as to the academic relationship between these subjects.
