Environmental foundations of archaeological research: the State of São Paulo

Archeology as an interdisciplinary science requires the use of multiple areas of knowledge, including the earth sciences. Its practitioners are mostly stemmed from the humanities, often having difficulty inserting the theme of the natural in their analyzis and studies. Aiming at helping fill this gap this study seeks to systematise oriented archeology of the general aspects of accumulated knowledge on the physical and environmental frameworks of the state of São Paulo. Through literature review and cumulative experience of fieldwork, this article presents the main implications for human occupation of the main landscape of São Paulo, listing different potentials and constraints associated.
