Abstract

Recent research point out the constructive phenomenon of riverine shellmounds in the middle Valley of Ribeira do Iguape, southern São Paulo State, more precisely, Itaoca, Jacupiranguinha river basin and Juquiá basin, during, at least, the period of 9,000 years. The present article aims at defining a riverine sambaqui (shellmound), Moraes site (6,000 – 4,000 years B.P.), in Miracatu city, São Paulo, with the objective of creating an inter-site comprehension of formative processes involved for the elevation of this mound structure.
