Abstract

Created in 1952 by Paulo Duarte, the Instituto de Pré-História (IPH) has conducted archaeological research, mainly on shellmound sites from the São Paulo state seashore, until its integration with other similar institutions at the University in 1989, when the new Museu de Arqueologia e Etnologia (MAE) was generated. The research projects and collections produced arc quickly described, and the listed and commented references cover most of the literature published through these 37 years of the IPH existence.
