Tradition Itaparica and early lithic industry of Lapa do Boquete (Minas Gerais, Brazil)

Abstract

Some archaeogists have grouped the early holocenic lithic industries of central Brazil in a wide paleo-indian horizon named Tradition Itaparica, which remains are mostly found in rockshelters. The outline of the traditions deals only with the descriptions of retouched stone tools found in little test pits. This paper discusses these cultural markers using the technological analysis of Boquete rockshelter early industries (12.000 - 8.000 BP). Some hypothesis are built about time space relationships of curated and expedictives technologies. Some related item are pointed that can be the result of non functional behaviours and so can be understood as makers of a real ethnical identity.
