This article presents UNIFESP’ Study and Research Group on Classical Antiquity and its Afro-Asian Connections, as well as its periodical Herodotus (available at http://www.herodoto.unifesp.br). The Study and Research Group and its journal propose a departure from traditional Western views of the Ancient Mediterranean region and its connections, to focus on perspectives involving the populations from Northern Africa and the East. The work of the Group and Herodotus is based on the assumption and recognition of the importance of such works in this field and is geared, as a corollary of this orientation, to meet the compelling need to promote and disseminate them.
