Abstract

This paper presents the anthracological analysis of a funerary area from Jabuticabeira-II site, which is compared to the results of the analysis of the covering layer from the same profile accomplished by Scheel-Ybert (2001). All sediment samples were collected according to the archaeological features. The botanical identification of the fragments was performed under a microscope in reflected light by wood anatomy analysis. Significant differences were observed between the covering layer and the funerary area. Evidences suggest the occurrence of selection of some elements related to the funerary ritual.
