Abstract

From the sequencing of formal government structures in Brazil based on their resistance over time and changes in critical junctures, this article brings some suggestions to understand the overlap between the transformations registered in the sequencing of these formal structures of power and government in Brazil with what comparative literature consecrates: the institutionalization of the state has never been a uniform process, neither geographically nor historically. Neither unilinear. The paths to statehood varied according to the social forces that gave impetus to the formation of the basic attributes of this phenomenon; according to the historical moment and the order of its entry into the scene. And, not least, according to its form of integration into the broader power relations that encompass and sustain it.
