Abstract

The article analyses the meaning of the adult literacy process as a change through which individuals already integrated as adults in a literate society GO. It also discusses the role of school as an agency in charge of developing reading and writing abilities and of transmiting other pieces of knowledge which provide tools for the person to act within the literate system.
