Born in the Kursk region, the russian poet Nikolai Aseev (1889-1963) participated in important Soviet avant-garde publications. In addition to being a member of the soviet magazine LEF, where he lived with Vladimir Mayakovsky, he was also one of the directors of Lirika magazine, from which emerged the literary group Centrifugal (Tsentrifúga), which included, as well as Aseev, Boris Pasternak and Serguei Bobróv. Among other honors, he received the Order of Lenin (1939), the Stalin Prize (1941) and the Order of the Red Banner of Labour (1959). In Brazil, two of his poems were translated and published in the anthology Modern Russian Poetry, launched in 1968, translated by Haroldo de Campos and Boris Schnaiderman. The poem Song about Garcia Lorca (Песнь о Гарсиа Лорк), presented here in poetic translation, unpublished in portuguese, pays homage to the spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca, executed by Franco’s soldiers in 1936.
