Abstract

This paper aims at investigating the slavery relationships at Sabinada (Bahia, 1837-1838), a liberal separatist rebellion. The analysis is based on the documentation produced by the people involved in the event and also by the sources regarding the repression of it. The purpose is to know how liberalism and slavery were defended by the same movement, recognizing the race/color boundaries and its importance in this social context.
