This work presents the evolution of the educational system during the government of Fernando Henrique Cardoso, in the context of the transformations occurred in the last decade. The data demonstrates a clear progress in elementary education and the article analyses the implemented educational policy and the transformation, which occurred in the system during this time. A special part is dedicated to College, and it is demonstrated the existence of a crisis which affects the public institutions, mainly the Federal ones. It also shows the headway in the process of evaluation of the system.Downloads
