"O amor por": modos de engajamento e trabalho do self

Resumo

Os sociólogos têm abordado o modo como a participação no mundo da alta cultura relaciona-se com estratégias de ascensão social ou com esforços para solidificar ligações entre os que partilham círculos de afiliação diversos. Nessa perspectiva, o consumo de alta cultura subordina-se a séries mais abrangentes de fenômenos sociais e apresenta-se como recurso a ser trocado ou convertido num diferente tipo de capital - seja simbólico, social ou econômico. Neste artigo, baseado em pesquisa intensiva de campo e de arquivo a respeito dos fanáticos por ópera em Buenos Aires, ao invés de atentar para a relação entre afiliação social e inclinações estéticas, visei as práticas culturais como formas de afiliação social em si mesmas. Tomando a metáfora do "amor por" literalmente, usei-a como suporte para produzir uma tipologia das práticas de ligação, explicando como cada um dos tipos pode ser atribuído a um modo específico de trabalho sobre o self produzido a partir do "amor por" algo.
