Drawing and erasing America in the textualities of anthropophagy

This article originates from/begins with the moment when, through European navigations, the imaginary and real borders of what would be considered Brazil were textually and visually fixed, to identify how a specific image—the naked woman—became an index of the Brazilian people. I return to the anthropophagic ritual as a structuring textuality of this initial configuration, pointing out that the emphasis given to this cultural expression will appear in iconography since the 16th century and the content of these visual narratives will fix an image in particular: anthropophagy as a differentiating value for Brazilians.
