This work aims to perform a reading of the novel As Visitas do Dr. Valdez, by the Mozambican author João Paulo Borges Coelho. With it, I intend to observe how the narrative makes evident the legacy that the new society that will form from the colonial time. This heritage is marked by the cultures that crossed what would become Mozambique, with the exploratory interest being central, evidently, territory to colonialism. Thus, starting from the elements pointed out by Aníbal Quijano about colonial domination, this heritage can be interpreted here as a mark of the colonialities that persist despite the end of this system.
