Through the analysis of two novels by José Eduardo Agualusa, The year that Zumbi took Rio (2002) and The Queen Ginga (2014), published in Brazil in 2015, we intend to study the centrality that Portuguese Language cultures have been involved in its production since 1997. In the case of the two novels, the protagonism is lent to two historical personages of cultures of African origin, Zumbi and Ginga, that compose an intricate board of identities in the lusófona triangulation drawn by the Atlantic Ocean. The reflection on language, poetry and translation constitute, nevertheless, the tonic never absent from the novels and short stories of this Angolan writer.
