Abstract

In the face of the scientific advances related to light and lighting in architecture, it is increasingly important to consider the role of lighting instruction of these concepts, especially those who work or are going to work in occupations related to the built environment. This article aims to understand a broad panorama of lighting education, focusing especially on higher education. The research is based on a literature systematic review divided into two sessions: international and national context. The research was carried out in the Scopus, Web of Science, Scielo and Periódicos Capes databases. The results allowed to identify common theoretical categories, which reflected the subjects addressed in the articles: analyses on lighting education; report of experience; and evaluations of the quality of lighting education”. From these categories it was possible to identify problems and challenges related to the theme, such as: difficulty in establishing the basic content to be taught and in integrating it with design practice; learning deficiencies; and the need to promote multidisciplinary skills in students. By comparing different realities, it was possible to establish differences and similarities in the approach and teaching objectives, as well as identify themes that remain not discussed in research about lighting education in the Brazilian context.
